Collection of exquisite handloom brocades and gold and silver zari silks……these are traditional Benaras silks from India. They are not Ahimsa (cruelty-free) silks, but are part of an ancient and traditional art/craft form.
This indigenous art craft has been hit hard and almost lost due to the competition from the cheap mill-made silks from China and other large mills in India. This has affected the livelihood of the remaining artisans and the Indian Govt. is making a concerted effort to promote this dying ancient art form, which can be traced back to the Mughal period.
Reason We Source These Silks:
- Preserving Tradition and indigenous craft
-Maintains family legacy
-Handmade using traditional materials and techniques
-Crafted in a community setting
-Provide livelihood to artisans
